This week I have decided to go vegan. This will last for at least 5 consecutive days. Most people who attempt the vegan challenge do so on a 30 day basis since it takes time for your body to adjust and reap all the benefits. I say I will do at least 5 because on Saturday I'm going to the renaissance festival with my friends and family and I would like to be able to eat there since they won't let me bring in my own food. If, however, this week goes well and I am able to eat on Saturday then I may choose to turn this into a full 30 day challenge like most people take on.
It will be an interesting challenge. I have had doubts that I would ever be able to become vegan full time due to the rough restraints on the social aspects of my life. For example, I really love to eat out and finding vegetarian food isn't too much of a challenge but finding vegan food is near impossible when you live out here in good ol' west Texas. I have made several adjustments to my diet to make it more vegan-friendly. I have cut out most all dairy (save for a little cheese here and there), I have only had eggs twice in the past month or so, etc. The only thing I have not really done is pay too much attention to the ingredient list. So I'll order cake knowing full well there is butter and eggs in it. Baby steps....gotta start somewhere.
No baby steps this week. I am full on doing the vegan thing. No butter, no eggs, no dairy, no animal products period. I will update at the end of the week to discuss my thoughts.
