Mi Nina Bonita

I decided to do a double post today.  I leave for the Rosario Islands tomorrow to see some white sand beaches.  Its been a really nice day, actually.  It rained most of the afternoon, no thunderstorms though.  After breakfast and some moderate laziness, my mom and I walked down to this place called La Barioche, a coffee shop.

Here is one thing I really, truly, honestly miss...cafe con leche.  It sounds simple - coffee with milk, right? Wrong.  There is something amazing about the coffee that they make.  Its not bitter at all, I barely have to add any sugar to it.  Those of you who know me know that I put an obscene amount of flavored creamer and sugar into my coffee in the morning.  Here, not so much...only a little bit of sugar and its perfect.  I love, love, love this stuff.  My mom and I sat at this cafe chatting for a few hours before heading home.

Twas a lazy afternoon at the Casa de Holt...  We made sandwiches for lunch and watched some Mad Men and Top Gear episodes.  I suppose at about 5pm we ended up in the Old City again to wander the streets, shop, and have some dinner.  While I'll readily admit that its nice to get lost in the tiny streets of Barcelona, Rome or Venice, getting lost in the streets of Cartagena, Colombia is quite a different sensation.  Upon returning to the more recognized streets of the Old City we found dinner at a place called La Bruchetta.  It was quite good, actually.

It was an interesting dinner, though.  The card reader wasn't working so the waiter came back and politely told us that his credit card reader was offline.  At this point we owed about 195,000 pesos (aprox $115) and we all pooled together our cash and managed to pay the bill and still save enough for the taxi.  After this particular extravaganza some guitar band came in and wanted to play us a song...for $5000 pesos.  I, at this point, still had some wine in my glass so I was in no hurry to leave.  So, my dad said that they could sing me a song called "Mi Nina Bonita" (my pretty daughter).

Usually, we don't pay for people to sing to us.  I'm not really sure why.  Its decent, but I guess its just easier to avoid the hassle of paying them or dealing with the sales pitch.

Tomorrow we leave for the islands and I imangine much laziness will ensue.  That is, if you consider reading for pleasure, scuba diving and sitting your little booty in the sand laziness.  I suppose for some people reading and scuba is being far from lazy.... Nevertheless, my dad and I have purchased a large bottle of cuban rum to accompany us to the beach.  It should be a freakin awesome trip.  I'll update when I return :)

Peace y'all...or adios...or whatever.
